About Gary Gustafson
Gary has spent more than 30 years building businesses, developing leaders, and helping organizations grow. His career has given him a perspective that comes not just from advising business owners, but from actually being one.
Gary began his career in the automotive industry, working his way through increasingly responsible leadership positions before eventually becoming a general manager, partner, and dealership owner. Along the way, he learned firsthand how the right people, systems, culture, and financial discipline can transform the performance of a business. As a partner in a Subaru dealership, Gary helped grow annual revenue from approximately $12 million to more than $75 million while leading an organization of more than 100 employees.
His entrepreneurial career expanded well beyond automotive. Gary founded and operated businesses in several industries, including home services, construction, security, and real estate. He built a security company from startup to approximately 60 employees and later founded and grew a construction and home services organization to more than 50 employees and $7.5 million in annual revenue.
Those experiences also taught Gary that business ownership is about much more than revenue. Owners have to build teams, manage cash flow, solve problems, create accountability, develop leaders, navigate difficult seasons, and continually make decisions with incomplete information.
Over more than 30 years as an entrepreneur and business leader, Gary has experienced both the highs of building successful, growing companies and the difficult seasons that can come with business ownership. He has celebrated significant successes, faced setbacks, made mistakes, navigated failure, and learned what it takes to get back up and move forward.
Those experiences have shaped not only the way Gary approaches business, but also the way he advises other owners. He understands firsthand the responsibility and pressure that come with having employees, families, customers, and financial commitments depending on the decisions you make. Whether an owner is experiencing rapid growth, struggling through a difficult season, or simply wondering what comes next, Gary can relate because he has lived many of those same experiences himself.
That experience ultimately led to 2:20 Advisors.
Today, Gary works alongside business owners and leadership teams as a Business Growth Advisor, helping them strengthen the fundamental areas that drive long-term business success: leadership, people, strategy, financial performance, operational systems, accountability, and execution.
His philosophy is straightforward: great businesses don't happen by accident. They are built intentionally. Strong leaders build strong teams. Strong teams operating within disciplined systems create consistent results. And businesses that can perform without depending entirely on their owner ultimately become more valuable and sustainable.
Through 2:20 Advisors, Gary's goal is to help business owners move beyond simply running their companies and begin intentionally building businesses that create greater profitability, greater value, and greater freedom for the people who own them.
